How to Make a Flower Lantern from a Plastic Bottle: Easy Step-by-Step Guide

Every plastic bottle you've ever used is still out there somewhere. Think about that for a second. The water bottle you drank from last summer? It will outlive you by centuries. Two years ago, I visited a local recycling center and saw mountains of plastic bottles piled up, waiting to be processed. Many of them will end up in landfills because recycling systems are overwhelmed. That's when I realized that real change starts at home—with me and with you. This flower lantern project is my small contribution to reducing plastic waste. Instead of throwing away plastic bottles and hoping they get recycled, I now transform each one into something useful and beautiful—much like how you can turn Cotton Swabs into Mini Flowers or Upcycle Old Jars into Mushroom-Shaped Vases . When you make this lantern, you're not just crafting—you're inspiring others to see trash differently. I'll walk you through every step of the process to make your own flower lantern. DIY Origami-Style Tulips: A Step-by-Step Guide

Do you want to lighten up someone's special day with a handmade gift? Origami-style tulip flowers might be the perfect way to do that.

These cute paper flowers are easy to make and make for a thoughtful gift (no watering required)!

In this step-by-step guide, I'll walk you through the process of how to craft your own tulip flowers using just a handful of basic materials. I'll also share the video at the end of the guide to help you with the process. Let's get started!

Required Materials:

Square paper (7x7 cm, but you can adjust the size of the paper if you want to make larger flowers)

Wooden skewers (for the stems)

Crepe paper (for the leaves)

Glue (glue gun or any craft glue will work) and Scissors

Step-by-Step Guide:

Step 1: Choose Your Paper

Start with the square paper. 7×7 cm is recommended, but you can increase or decrease the size of the paper depending on the size of tulips you want to make. Make sure the paper you're using is not too thick.

Step 2: Fold Your Tulip Flowers

The second step includes the fun part—folding! Follow the step-by-step visuals shown in the video to create the classic shape of tulip flowers. Don't worry if your shape doesn't turn out perfect on the first try. It's all about practice! Try to make clean and crisp folds to achieve a polished tulip shape.

Step 3: Attach the Tulip flower to the Stem

Once you have your tulip shape folded, the next step is to attach it to the skewer. Put a small dab of glue using a glue gun, at the base of the tulip flower and press it gently onto the top of the skewer. Hold it in for a couple of seconds to make sure the flower sticks to skewer. And now your tulip has a stem!

Step 4: Add the Leaves

Now, let's make some leaves for our flowers. Cut your crepe paper into leaf shapes. You can make the size of leaves as small or big as you like. Once you have your leaves cut out, glue them to the skewer. You can add two to three leaves to each flower stem. This will help give the tulips a realistic look.

Step 5: Let Them Dry

Wait for a few minutes to let your tulips dry, and you can enjoy a cup of tea meantime. Once they are dry, you can use a vase to display them. You can also tie a few flowers together and make a DIY bouquet for someone special.

Tips & Tricks:

Thickness of Paper Matters: Lightweight paper is perfect for folding. If your paper is too thick the folding part can get tricky and it will be difficult for you to get clean folds.

Patience is Key: Don't try to rush the process of folding. Precision and patience are key to making your tulips look great.

Mix Up The Colour: You can try using different patterns and colors of paper to create a unique bouquet.

Perfect for Gifting: Pair your tulip flowers with chocolates or favourite treats for your special one. You can add a handwritten note to the bouquet as well.
